Future Living Studio
We are Future Living Studio, a cross-cultural design studio working with local companies interested in building their new product development and sustainable product development capabilities.
We work within the EU-funded, SPIN project to develop Vietnam's way to be a global participant in both design and production. Our intended network: universities, companies, consumers, designers.
Goals
- Grow a design community/network in Vietnam and with international partners.
- Build new and local design knowledge through cross-cultural and inter-disciplinary collaboration.
- Explore sustainability issues regarding local design and production.
- Fabrication of the collection(s) of products.
- Exhibition of products at the 2012 Vietnam Lifestyle Fair and abroad.
FLS 2 (June 2012 - September 2012)

FLS 1 (August 2011 - February 2012)
We are an eclectic group of designers, in our creative processes as well as nationalities. A key aspect of our work is attention to design: to think about the purpose of the product, the way it is produced, the perspective of the user, and the story that is behind it. This is how sustainability is embedded in our process and how “design value” is present in our results.
In this 6-month project, we are designing an interior and furniture collection for the context of The Cottages, an upcoming eco-boutique hotel on the island of Phu Quoc. Aspiring to become a sustainable tourist destination, The Cottages challenged us to develop a vision and products for future sustainable island tourism for Phu Quoc and their hotel. Our collection will be exhibited at the Vietham Lifestyle Fair 2012 and will be used at the Cottages.
Our designs are primarily intended for the Cottages, however, it should be noted that we are also focusing on exploring the skills and manufacturing possibilities of the companies we work with. Ideas that seem less suitable for the Cottages, but are still beneficial to the FLS Collection, may also still be developed further by the companies under supervision of FLS.

Sustainable Product Innovation Project (SPIN)
This studio is part of the SPIN project that is funded by EU SWITCH-Asia. SPIN aims to build capacity in this region by providing the knowledge and expertise for this transition towards a more economically and sustainably viable future. The SPIN project works with 500 SMEs to increase their capacity for sustainable product innovation.
